Independence, Kansas Man Arrested In Fatal Shooting

Police arrested a 65-year-old Independence, Kansas man in connection with a fatal shooting Monday evening.

He is identified as Gary Lee Johnson.  

Police Chief Jerry Harrison told KGGF Radio, officers were called to near 24th and Laurel about a shooting.  They arrived to find 60-year-old William Hugo, of Neodesha, Kansas dead.

Johnson was taken into custody shortly thereafter at the scene and booked into the Montgomery County jail on a complaint of murder in the second degree.  

Jail records show Gary Lee Johnson is being held without bond.

Chief Harrison says his department was assisted by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
