The City of Tulsa has postponed its Prescription Drug Take-Back event scheduled for Saturday, April 29th.
City officials cited inclement weather as the reason.
The event was to be held at three locations in Tulsa where local residents could dispose of unwanted medications and prescription drugs.
Officials say prescription drug overdoses kill more Tulsans ages 25 to 64 than car wrecks do. They say largest group of users is people 18 to 25 years old.
A recent Oklahoma Prevention Needs Assessment study showed 16.45 percent of Tulsa County youth are obtaining prescription drugs from home.
The City of Tulsa says disposing of medications by flushing them down toilets is NOT an option. They say Tulsa's wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove chemicals found in many medications so the chemicals could end up in streams.
