Two weeks ago, Union beat Jenks in the postseason for the first time since 2010.

“It was a great feeling, probably the best feeling I've felt in a long time,” said running back Shamari Brooks. “I'm going to be honest, it honestly felt like winning the championship."

But it wasn't. That chance comes Friday.

“We beat Jenks, but that wasn't the championship game,” said cornerback Tre Brown. “Norman North's pretty good too, so we have to get off of that Jenks game. It's time to play Norman North."

Norman North is the team that stands between Union and their first title since 2011 and is the same team that handed them their second loss this year back in October.

“I think that a lot of our kids were able to look back, face that adversity, and become a better team because of it,” said head coach Kirk Fridrich. “You just can't win on talent alone, and for us, I think we started to gain that chemistry, that family type of bond."

It’s hard to believe there could be more on the line than a state championship, but that just might be the case on Friday.

Everybody knows about the streak; the last 20 state titles in the state's largest class have come from either Jenks or Union, and the Redskins don't want to be the team that ends that.

“Our guys aren't looking at this as an east versus west,” Fridrich stated.

Brown added, "We can't be the first team to give it up. Nah, it's time for us to defend the east side."

Brooks says the Redskins want to keep the east side tradition going  and be the powerhouse in Oklahoma.

Either way, the goal is the same.
