A car traveling east on Highway 412 turned into a moving target. The person driving the car wasn't hurt, but police are telling other drivers to be on the lookout.
Police say there's no need to panic. So far, it seems to be an isolated event, but it's important for police to get the word out just in case something happens again.
While driving east on Highway 412 between Gilcrease Museum Road and the IDL early Tuesday morning, Pat Kinnison said he thought he hit something, but when he got home he found two bullet holes in his hood.
Sergeant Shane Tuell said, "This could just be a random thing where someone was sighting in a rifle at midnight, who knows. But something happened, and if it was isolated, fantastic. But if it's not isolated, we need to know."
Kinnison was going to let it go until a friend suggested he report it to the police.
"There's never any harm in making a police report,” Tuell said. “You never know, you may be one person in the link of a chain of several people that have had a similar problem."
Kinnison showed us his car and shared a warning on Facebook:
"Police confirmed it was two bullet holes on the driver’s side. In situations like this they wait for a pattern to develop, so if there are others please report it."
The post has since been shared nearly 1,000 times.
Most people have posted well wishes, but some doubt it's damage from a bullet. Others argue, the bullet didn't enter from the outside.
"Just take it for what it is, this guy had an issue out on the roadway and he's sharing it with everybody, just leave it like that, and I think he did a good thing by using social media to bring awareness to it," said Tuell.
Police say this is the first reported case of shots being fired at moving cars on the highway but they urge drivers to be aware of their surroundings.
