Officers were called to the home in the 4300 block of South 170th East Avenue just before 11:45 p.m. Monday. A woman there said Reyes, her estranged husband, forced his way into the home. She got out of the house with three of her children and her boyfriend, but the 2-year-old girl remained in the home with Reyes.
Police told News On 6 the girl was the wife's daughter but not Reyes' child.
Officers said Reyes also pointed his gun at police as he stood with the child on a balcony of the home. That's when Lawless fired one time and killed Reyes.
