Tulsa Police have identified the man shot in a standoff October 18, 2016, and the police officer who shot him. Police say Salvador Reyes, 42, was killed as he held a 2-year-old girl hostage at gunpoint and used her as a shield.

The member of the special operations team who shot him was identified as Officer Jason Lawless, 40. He is currently on administrative leave with pay.

Officers were called to the home in the 4300 block of South 170th East Avenue just before 11:45 p.m. Monday. A woman there said Reyes, her estranged husband, forced his way into the home. She got out of the house with three of her children and her boyfriend, but the 2-year-old girl remained in the home with Reyes.

Police told News On 6 the girl was the wife's daughter but not Reyes' child.

Officers said Reyes also pointed his gun at police as he stood with the child on a balcony of the home. That's when Lawless fired one time and killed Reyes.
