The Department of Environmental Quality issued an ozone alert for parts of northeast Oklahoma Friday afternoon.

DEQ and Cherokee Nation air quality monitors in northeast Oklahoma, including Tulsa, detected concentrations of ozone considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The department recommends children, the elderly and people with respiratory or heart disease should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion.

It says the ozone level is unhealthy for sensitive groups in Creek, Tulsa, Rogers, Mayes and Wagoner Counties.
