The heat advisory will remain for the next two days and possibly Saturday before some relief will arrive early next week in the form of a few storms and some “not as hot” air.   Temperatures this morning in the upper 70s and lower 80s will rapidly move into the upper 90s near 100 along with heat index values nearing 105 to 109.   Our first triple digit high of the summer season will occur either today or tomorrow for the metro.  Some locations across east central OK will not reach 100.   A few isolated storms will remain possible this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon across far eastern OK and western Arkansas but the coverage is expected to be very low.

Weather Alerts

The mid-level ridge of high pressure currently centered over the southern plains ( and Oklahoma) will move westward and weaken early next week.   A weak front will move into southern Kansas Sunday and Monday with a chance for a few storms across northern OK.   Temperatures should also drop a few degrees with daytime highs in the mid or upper 90s.

Tuesday and Wednesday a weak easterly wave will approach the Arklatex region with an increase of showers and storms across the eastern third of the state.   This will also act to keep the temps in the mid-90s.   A few additional storms are possible at times as a small and weak mid level trough will pass the area to our north.  This minor pattern change will not bring cooler air to the state but the influence of these factors should bring some clouds and some noticeable difference in the daytime highs.
