Firefighters were called and when they arrived, they said the winds made the flames nearly impossible to fight. They said they had to protect nearby homes to prevent the flames from spreading.
The homeowner, Shawna Norris said the worst thing was knowing her kids were at the home without her.
"The kids are safe, they're healthy and they were really, really brave. It's just hard, as a mom, because, like, you know, I'm stuck at work and we're under a tornado warning. My husband's like, on the highway trying to get here, and it's just like, they couldn't even drive because of the tress on the road, and you're trying to get here and your kids are freaking out," Norris said.
Norris said her mother-in-law was treated for smoke inhalation; she said she went back inside to save some of the animals.
Norris said the family had three dogs and two cats, they believe they lost them all in the fire.
In addition to this fire, the Tulsa Fire Department said it’s responded to 10 house fires, one apartment fire and four building fires.
They said it’s also gone to 37 down lines, 11 transformer fires and nine vehicle accidents.
