Crews are shutting down part of the intersection at 71st and Sheridan Monday morning because of a water line break. Traffic is expected to be a big issue this morning because this line is still at full pressure and there's no geyser or gushing into the air.
They just started using a pump to clear out the hole in the 6 a.m. hour.
The call came in Sunday night of a break, and the longest process was getting the traffic flow setup and all the lanes closed. So far, the city used a jackhammer to break up the concrete. They saw the pool of water underneath the street, which they're pumping out.
The crew member said he suspects the 24-inch line has a small hole in it, and it will be able to be fixed "live" - which means crews will only have to reduce water pressure when they're repairing it and not shut it off.
