As Kim Stephens and her son Kyle sat on their front porch, they remembered their son and brother Johnathan through pictures.

Tulsa police say 17-year-old Sam Emmitt and 16-year-old Nathan Simmons are in the Tulsa County Jail after carjacking four cars -- one in Broken Arrow, and three in Tulsa.

Police say the teens shot and killed Johnathan at some point in between the carjackings, leaving Kim with one question.

"Why? I mean, they carjacked several people and held guns to them, why did they shoot my son?" she said.

Johnathan Stephens cooked for several restaurants in Tulsa, but Kim says above all, he should be remembered as a father.

He leaves behind his daughter, Serenity.

“His world revolved around her, everything was for Serenity,” she said.

The two-and-a-half year old always could be found by his side. And the idea of her growing up without a father is what Johnathan's mother is struggling with the most.

“Yes, I lost my son, no mother should ever have to bury their child, but she lost her daddy... and that, to me, hurts more than anything in the world,” she said.

Kim says now that her son is gone, she feels a heavy responsibility.

“I have to make sure that she knows what kind of daddy she had,” Kim said.

The family plans to have a memorial in Johnathan's honor, which will be announced later.
