Okmulgee is closing one school while breaking ground on a new building.
Superintendent Tod Williams said Eastside Elementary is closing as part of an effort to save more than a million dollars.
Next school year, third to sixth graders will go to Okmulgee Middle School, which is being renamed Dunbar Elementary.
Seventh and eighth graders will have their own building at the high school.
The announcement comes as the school broke ground Thursday on a new band building.
Williams said the money for that project came from a bond issue.
