Former Sooner Zack Sanchez heard his name called early in Round 5 of the NFL Draft.
The cornerback was picked 141st overall by the Carolina Panthers.
“Blessed for the opportunity, can't wait to get to Carolina and get to work! Panthers ready to get back to the super bowl,” Sanchez tweeted after the announcement. “Wish I could tell everyone thank you individually for all the support! Can't tell yall how much I [ap]preciate it!”
Earlier this year, during the NFL Combine, he stated that the Panthers showed the most interest in him. And his belief that they would pick him proved true.
Sanchez was the third cornerback selection by Carolina in this year's draft making this the first time in team history the Panthers selected three players listed at the position.
Despite missing three games due to injury, Sanchez wrapped his final collegiate season at Oklahoma with an impressive seven interceptions, tying for fifth in the nation.
"Sanchez is one of the best playmakers in this year's draft"
