Sperry Group Celebrates 16 Years Of Helping Girls Get To Prom

Prom season is here and while it can be an exciting time for many, it can also cause stress for families who are struggling to make ends meet. But help is out there for young women who may think going to prom is only a dream.

Braydn Little has a certain look in mind.

"Anything with a halter top maybe, maybe strapless, kind of form fitting but kind of flowy," said Braydn Little. 

She is searching for the perfect prom dress. As a senior at Sperry High School, she has a lot of activities to prepare for over the next few months and prom dresses aren't cheap. Unless you come to Prom Wishes in Sperry.

"It's going to help a lot because you know there's senior dues, senior trip money, shirts and stuff. Prom is an expensive time of year so this is a good thing to come to," said Braydn Little.

For the past 16 years, girls who don't have the resources for a prom dress can come here and find something to wear.

 "Well for me it's really an emotional thing because I was a girl who couldn't afford a prom dress. It has the possibility of being one of the only things that a girl looks forward to in her life.  I mean if she doesn't get married or have children or graduate college or graduate high school, those are some of the top five experiences in a girl's life," said Sarah Bridgeman, Prom Wishes. 

Once a girl sets up her appointment, she comes to Prom Wishes for a fitting. But she's really getting more than just something to wear. She gets a boost in self-confidence and the understanding she has a voice in the choices in her life.

"When they get that right dress and they've never had anything like that on their body before and they stand in front these mirrors and they see themself, they're a totally different person, their eyes light up and they're smiling and they just feel so good about themself," said Sarah Bridgeman.

Braydn found the perfect dress and was shocked to find out it wouldn't cost her a thing.

"Oh my gosh, oh my goodness, oh my gosh!"

"If somebody calls me and says they need a dress, I'm not going to question it. A lot of times there are hard times going on right now. Somebody might have had a different situation a month ago than they do now and I'm not going to question it. It's not my business. I don't need to know. If you say you need a dress, I'm going to believe you need a dress," said Sarah Bridgeman.
