The largest, most-efficient gas turbine in the world is coming to GRDA's Grand River Energy Center in Chouteau.
Osage Sky News 6 HD showed us the turbine earlier this week as it traveled by barge to the Port of Catoosa.
On Wednesday, we got to see it on the ground.
The turbine is made by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems and it's the first of its kind in the western hemisphere.
It's capable of providing electricity to more than 300,000 homes.
"It just gives us a greater diversity across the different types of generation resources we have, and when you have the diversity, that also helps reliability and that also helps keep rates down for our customers,” GRDA Spokesperson Justin Alberty said.
Natural gas will fuel the turbine, making it one of the most environmentally friendly options available to generate power as that plant is transitioned from burning coal.
