Crews from several fire departments in Rogers County worked together to contain a grass fire in eastern Claremore.
Claremore Fire Chief, Sean Douglas, said the fire was burning in a mostly rural area but there were some nearby houses. He said they were able to contain the fire before any homes were lost.
"If you go on the other side of this, there's a newer subdivision, and there's several of these homes kinda out in the middle, so there are quite a few homes that could have been threatened," he said.
He said one hay barn was totally lost, however.
Neighbors said they weren’t too concerned, but did evacuate some horses until firefighters contained the flames.
The Claremore Fire Department had three brush trucks get stuck in the mud, so Verdigris and Tiawah firefighters helped battle the flames.
Firefighters will stay on scene to make sure the fire doesn't flare up.
