A jury recommended life in prison for a Tulsa couple charged with neglect of their two sons, resulting in the death of one.

Robert McKay, 35, and Sarah McKay, 32, were charged in December 2014 with two counts each of child neglect.

Prosecutors say the couple's severe neglect resulted in the death of their 11-year-old special needs son.  They say the boy was subjected to terrible living conditions.

Their trial in Tulsa County court started Wednesday.

On Friday, the jury found both Robert and Sarah McKay guilty and recommended both be sentenced to life for the death of the boy and 27 years for neglect of the surviving son, who testified during their trial.
