Some high clouds are noted this morning across the area. These are in advance of the next weak upper level system that will be nearing our area later this evening bringing a slight chance of a few showers or sprinkles to northeastern OK and maybe a few flurries. A weak surface front will move across the area pre-dawn Saturday. Northwest winds will develop keeping highs Saturday in the lower 50s. Southwest winds will develop early Sunday before the next front moves across the are Sunday afternoon and evening bringing colder air back to eastern OK early next week.
Temperatures in the mid to upper 20s now will quickly move into the 40s at midday and top-out in the mid-50s this afternoon across eastern OK. The pressure gradient is expected to increase. This means south to southwest winds at 10 to 25 mph will be likely. Dry vegetation, low humidity, and the gusty winds will increase the fire danger to elevated levels with southwestern OK possibly to critical fire danger this afternoon.
The weak short-wave will dive down across the region later tonight. The moisture at the surface and mid-levels will remain very low, but the timing of the wave is a positive for some light showers/ sprinkles. Some data also suggest the temps may be cold enough in the mid-levels for some flurries pre-dawn Saturday. This chance remains very low. The window will be from 10pm tonight through 8am Saturday morning.
Saturday morning the clouds will quickly clear the area with highs moving into the lower 50s along with northwest winds at 10 to 15 mph.
Super Bowl Sunday looks good with highs in the mid-50s but colder air will arrive later in the evening as a strong vortex across the upper Midwest into southeastern Canada will crank-out some colder air down the plains. The eastern third of the state will experience the cool down with lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s Monday and Tuesday. This morning’s data delays a southerly surface return until next weekend.
Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
