A fast moving wave will approach the area later this morning through midday and may produce some light sprinkles or snow flurries across part of northwestern and central OK.   Locations across the northwestern part of the state may have the better chance at seeing some snow showers but we’ll also keep a low mention in our forecast for later this afternoon and early evening.    Any snow flurry or light sprinkle activity will be very light if it occurs at all.

WARN Interactive Radar

Temperatures today will remain quite cold with highs in the lower to mid-40s along with north winds at 10 mph.   Some sun will be possible this morning but increasing clouds are likely later this afternoon and tonight as the forcing approaches the area.   The tail end of the upper air trough will exit eastern OK pre-dawn Friday and this will signal the beginning of a minor warming trend that will start Friday and continue through Sunday.   Friday morning lows in the mid-20s will be followed by highs in the lower 50s along with south to southwest wind at 10 mph.   But stronger south winds will crank-up this weekend as the next in a continuing series of upper level systems impacts the southern plains.   Strong south winds Saturday at 15 to 25 mph will allow morning lows in the 30s and highs in the lower 60s.   Sunday morning lows in the 40s will be followed by highs in the mid-60s with increasing clouds.   A few showers will be possible Sunday afternoon and evening across extreme eastern OK and western Arkansas but the chance for significant precipitation will remain low.

Monday a weak surface boundary is expected to wobble southward and may bring daytime highs back down into the mid-50s across the northern sections of the state while locations across far southern OK remain the lower 60s for afternoon highs.   Another warming trend is likely Tuesday through Thursday with lows in the 40s and highs in the 50s and 60s.   A system may near the state by Christmas Day but the odds of any precipitation will remain low.   The data continue supporting a stronger system nearing the state Saturday and Sunday following Christmas with increasing thunderstorm chances for part of eastern OK and western Arkansas Saturday.

Again, today there will be slight chance of for some light showers or even snow flurries late this afternoon and early evening as a fast moving system brushes the state with highs in the lower to mid-40s.   Grab the big coat.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
