A strong storm system will be bearing down on Green Country this evening and overnight. Heavy rain along with strong to severe storms are expected.
As this system moves in today, we should see scattered showers develop through the afternoon. Rainfall will then increase in coverage and intensity after sunset. The atmosphere is more conducive for severe storms across western Oklahoma for the afternoon and evening but some storms are expected to maintain their strength and severity as they move into eastern Oklahoma.
Damaging winds will be the most likely threat with these storms, but we will also have to watch for the potential of quick-developing, short-lived tornadoes.
News On 6 WARN Team Weather Coverage
The timeline for storms across eastern Oklahoma will be late tonight into early Sunday morning. Heavy rainfall will still be impacting Green Country as we head off to church, but the threat of storms should be well east of us. As you head out, watch those low-lying areas that are prone to flooding as we could see over 2 inches of rain from this system.
It is important to be weather aware tonight. Keep weather radios and other devices turned on for any late night warnings. You can also download the News On 6 weather app to get watches and warnings sent to your phone.
