Homicide Victim's Body Recovered From Pittsburg County Lake

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a dive team recovered the body of an 18-year-old homicide victim Tuesday morning at Dow Lake near Haileyville.

Troopers said the body was recovered in three feet of water near the lake's spillway at about 11 a.m. Tuesday. 

The OHP says they were called Monday to assist deputies in the search for the victim. Law enforcement got involved searching the area after witnesses provided information about a missing person, authorities state.

Pittsburg County Sheriff Joel Kerns told the McAlester News-Capital the teen's name has not been released.  He says the the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist with the investigation.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said they are assisting in the investigation. They want to make a positive identification of he victim through fingerprints before his name is released.

The medical examiner will determine cause of death.
