A pair of burglars hit over a half a dozen apartment complexes, looking to steal rent checks.

They made their way from east Tulsa to south Tulsa, kicking down doors at leasing offices and stealing computers and checks.

The burglars weren't able to find any rent checks at the Sierra Pointe Apartments but did make off with three computers. They were also caught on camera in the process.

Surveillance video shows a man busting down the front office door at the Sierra Pointe Apartments near 11th and 169, shortly after another man walks inside.

They walk around, looking in drawers; police think they were after rent checks.

When they couldn't find any, Apartment Manager Eric Manriquez said they took three computers instead.

"A crazy day, people breaking in its crazy,” he said. "I'm glad we didn't have rent checks stolen, it's just material stuff, which can all be replaced."

Out of eight apartment complexes burglarized, police said the thieves stole checks from three, including Vista Shadow Mountain near 61st and Memorial, where they broke the front door down.

The office door at Braden Creek Apartments near 51st and Yale was kicked in and the deposit box inside gone.

The third was at the Silver Creek Apartments near 41st and 169.

Manriquez said, “It's rent days, and you've got all these people trying to pay their rent.”

Officer Jeanne Mackenzie said people who paid their rent on the first at any of the apartments need to protect themselves.

"The first thing you do is call your bank and close your account. All banks have your account number at the bottom of the check," Mackenzie said.

She said she can only question what the thieves are planning next.

"My assumption is they would use those checks and use the account numbers to make fraudulent purchases," she said.

Mackenzie said as long as you cancel your account, you don't need to worry.

One other apartment in south Tulsa had computers stolen; police aren't sure if the same two are responsible for all the burglaries.
