Two Air France flights traveling from the United States to Paris were diverted Tuesday night due to bomb threats.
Sources tell CBS News transportation correspondent threats were phoned in against two flights, one from Los Angeles and one from Washington, D.C. Both flights were en route to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
Both planes landed safely and were met by emergency crews at the airports, Air France said in a statement.
Flight 65 from Los Angeles was diverted to Salt Lake City. CBS affiliate KUTV reported airport spokesman Craig Vargo said the Airbus A-380 had about 400 passengers and crew on board. The FBI was investigating the aircraft with canines to check for explosives after it was evacuated, Vargo told the station.
Flight 55 from Washington was diverted to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Peter Spurway, spokesman for Halifax Stanfield International Airport, told Canada's CBC News. The Boeing 777 had 298 passengers and crew members who were taken to "a secure area in the airport terminal" while the plane was inspected, Spurway said.
