The Oklahoma Democrats are welcoming Independent voters to take part in the primaries.
According to a news release, a letter notifying the State Election Board that Independents will be allowed to vote in the Democratic primaries will be signed.
Mark Hammons, chairman of the State Democratic Party, House Minority Leader Scott Inman and State Minority Leader John Sparks will sign the letter after delegates voted to open the party’s primary elections.
“Democrats have opened their arms in allowing Independent voters access to have a voice in deciding candidates before they are chosen for them,” Hammons said.
Independent voters will be allowed to vote in all primaries beginning in 2016, including the Presidential Preferential Primary.
According to the State Election Board, Oklahoma has almost 883,000 registered Democrats, more than 261,000 Independents and 886,000 Republicans.
