Report: Haileyville City Worker Dies In Ditch Cave-In

A McAlester newspaper reports a Haileyville city worker died Wednesday morning from injuries sustained while looking for a water line leak.

The McAlester News-Capital says Roland Letourneau, 60, was in a ditch on 5th Street in Haileyville searching for the leak when the sides of the ditch collapsed. A co-worker called 911.

Haileyville Police confirmed the department was investigating but declined to say anything more.

Haileyville Mayor Sean Dawson said Letourneau was first taken to a McAlester hospital then to a Tulsa hospital where he was pronounced dead.Mayor Sean Dawson issued the following statement to the newspaper:

"It is with deep regret that I must report the passing of Haileyville Public Works Authority employee Roland Letourneau. Mr. Letourneau was a dedicated employee of the City of Haileyville and will be dearly missed. As a city, we offer our prayers for Mr. Letourneau's loved ones in this time of sorrow."

Haileyville is located southeast of McAlester.
