Oklahoma Highway Patrol Increases Presence In Rogers County

Too many people are dying on highways in Rogers County, so this weekend, more than 40 Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers are out to slow drivers down.

The troopers have spread out across Rogers County Friday looking for drivers breaking the law. They're stopping drivers for everything from not wearing a seat belt to speeding.  

Some of the locations are the Port of Catoosa, Highway 20 and the Highway 412-Interstate-44 interchange. The OHP says for 20 hours troopers will be looking for speeders and other violators.  

Trooper Dwight Durant says in spite of its smaller population, Rogers County has seen as many fatal wrecks as Tulsa County.  

"Our goal is to create a safe environment for motorists in Rogers County. We are not here to write a bunch of tickets. We are not here to take a lot of people to jail.  We are here to get the point across, people need to slow down and take their time," said OHP trooper Dwight Durant.

He says about a dozen troopers will be specifically looking for DUI drivers.
