Tulsa Police, Kids Work Together On Ropes Course

After the shooting and rioting in Ferguson, Missouri last year, a group of men in Tulsa met, prayed and talked about ways they could prevent such a thing from ever happening in Tulsa.

They call themselves Community Trust Champions and decided to get middle school kids together with police officers so they could get to know each other.

Thursday, a group of those kids and Tulsa officers worked together through trust exercises on a ropes course.

Before they went high up in the air, the kids were allowed to ask officers any questions they wanted, so they could get a better understanding of their jobs and outlook.

Pamela Hawkins with Helmzar Ropes Course, said, "The police officers work with the students so that the students can achieve their goals, and also so the students can see the police officers are just like they are."

The goal is to get students to know and trust police now, to prevent possible problems in the future when those kids are adults.

They hope to add even more kids to the program in the future.
