A juvenile is in critical condition after gunfire rang out at Tulsa’s Cowan Park.

Police said after the juvenile was shot, someone dropped him off at a hospital with multiple wounds to the abdomen, and investigators are searching for answers.

Broken glass and blood spotted the Cowan Park parking lot Thursday evening.

Surrounding a red car were multiple shell casings, and inside, investigators said they found drugs ready to sell.

Neighbor Adam Pittman said multiple elementary students, recently dismissed from school, were outside when the shots echoed through the neighborhood.

"They were shooting in that direction, and there were a bunch of kids walking through there trying to get home. It was pretty intense," he said.

Police said, during the shooting, one person crouched behind the car and fired at other people in the street. That person then jumped into a gray or blue Chevy Impala and drove off, while people continued to shoot.

"We have multiple shell casings, different caliber shell casings. We don't know if this was a gun battle, we don't know if it was one shooter, two shooters, we don't know at this point," said Captain Eric Nelson, with Tulsa police.

One person was shot in the abdomen several times then dropped off at Hillcrest Hospital.

Neighbors said this incident is just one more thing to add to the list of illegal activity at the park.

"Unfortunately, there are people who deal drugs, and other illicit things, that show up at this little park behind the school," witness David Kelley said.

Kelley said the police have been great at patrolling the area and said there are good people there.

"We're not going to be intimidated and run off," he said.

Parents said, although the school out there were still students on campus, and they want to know why it wasn't placed on lockdown for the remaining students.

Tulsa school representatives said the district works closely with police, but, in this case, the school wasn't notified.

However, school representatives said they will look into what happened.
