A motorcycle driver is safe after being hit by a car early Saturday.

Just before 2 a.m., the driver turned from Peoria onto 11th Street on a green light, not a green arrow, police said.  It wasn't until after he started his turn that he saw a car heading toward him.

He says he jumped off the bike right before the car hit him, and he walked away with nothing but a scratch on his knee.

The motorcyclist says this event solidified the importance of wearing his helmet.

"Helmets save lives," T.J. Knapp said. "No matter what anybody says about it. Helmets do save lives."

Tulsa police say they did not give any citations for the incident.

Some lanes near the intersection were closed for a little while.
