A Weleetka man is in critical condition after a wrong-way driver crashed into his pickup, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. It happened just after midnight Monday on State Highway 84, about four miles east of Weleetka.
Troopers say the wrong-way driver was sleepy due to driving under the influence of drugs.
According to a collision report, William Britt of Henryetta was eastbound on the highway when he crossed the center line and hit Virgil Pigeon's westbound pickup. Pigeon's truck rolled one time, and Weleetka firefighters freed him from his vehicle.
Pigeon, 54, was taken by medical helicopter to Tulsa in critical condition with numerous injuries. His passenger, 55-year-old Jo Ann Pigeon, was not injured.
Britt, 55, also wasn't hurt. Troopers say he was sleepy and driving under the influence of an unnamed drug.
Virgil Pigeon was not wearing his seatbelt, the other two people involved in the crash were, the report states.
