An inmate serving life without parole for a 2002 first-degree murder conviction out of Oklahoma County was found dead Wednesday at the Davis Correctional Center.

Department of Corrections officials identified the victim as Lewis Hamilton, 36 of Oklahoma City.

Officials say Silas Royal, 33, of Tulsa stabbed Hamilton at the private prison at about 4 p.m. The Department of Corrections initially reported that Hamilton had stabbed Royal but later said the opposite happened.

Royal pleaded guilty in 2007 to killing Larry Littlejohn, Jr., 30, of Tulsa in January 2005. Court records show Royal was initially charged with first-degree murder in that case, but pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in 2007 and ordered to serve 25 years in prison.

The Davis Correctional Center in Holdenville is operated by the Corrections Corporation of America.
