The Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office says a dead calf on a highway early Thursday led to the discovery of two bodies at a rural Bache home.
Sheriff Joel Kerns told the McAlester News-Capital a woman driving on Highway 270 southeast of McAlester spotted the dead animal and stopped at a nearby home to see who owned it.
He says the woman looked inside the home and saw an elderly man on the floor and called the sheriff's office.
Deputies arrived and determined the man was deceased. They searched the home and nearby, finding the man's elderly wife entangled in a fence next to the home, also dead.
Kerns says the couple's names are not being released, pending notification of next of kin. He told the newspaper, he did not suspect foul play but asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to assist his deputies in their investigation.
Bache is located halfway between McAlester and Haileyville.
