A special honor for a World War II and Korean Conflict veteran took place on his 90th birthday. During his party, Barney Mecom was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in the European Theater.
The Bronze Star is given to those who distinguished themselves by brave or praiseworthy achievement or service while fighting an enemy of the United States.
"That's a great privilege," Mecom said.
Mecom served in France and Germany during World War II, and he described himself as a foot soldier.
He says he carried a gun and just shot when he had to.
