The Tulsa Parks Department said it desperately needs lifeguards to keep city pools open this summer.

The shortage already means the city won't be able to open Lacy Pool Saturday, but it will reopen Sunday.

The parks department is even offering lifeguard classes to certify swimmers who already have the skills.

One of the Summer Lifeguard Classes starts Monday, June 8, at McClure Park Pool at 7440 East 7th Street.

Class hours are Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

To qualify for the class participants must be able to demonstrate their ability to swim 300 meters, tread water for two minutes without using their arms, and dive nine feet to retrieve a brick and then swim 20 yards.

To reserve a spot in the class you can email cbrashier@cityoftulsa.org
