The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says it's opened an investigation into allegations of wrongdoing in the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.

The Tulsa County District Attorney's Office requested OSBI investigative assistance last month in the wake of the controversial shooting of Eric Harris by Reserve Deputy Bob Bates.

A few days later, Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler recused his office as prosecuting authority. The Oklahoma Attorney General then appointed Okmulgee County District Attorney O.R. Barris as prosecutor in this case.

Barris formally requested OSBI investigative assistance into the allegations and on Friday the OSBI opened an investigation, according to a news release from the OSBI.

When the investigation is completed, the Bureau will provide D.A. Barris a thorough, written report. D.A. Barris will determine if any violations of state laws occurred within the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, according to the release.
