Tulsa junior catcher Catherine Horner was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after she went 8-for-10 with four extra base hits and six RBI in a three-game sweep at UConn, the league office announced Monday.

Horner, a native of La Canada, Calif., hit .800 with a 1.300 slugging percentage and a .818 on-base percentage, and scored four runs to lead the Golden Hurricane to three wins at UConn over the weekend. Half of her hits went for extra bases, as she tallied three doubles and a triple in the series.

Horner was 3-for-4 in the series opener on Saturday, with a triple, three RBI and a run scored, and in Game 2, she went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs. In the finale on Sunday, she went 3-for-3, recording two doubles, two RBI, a run scored and a walk. In four games last week, Horner hit .667 with a 1.083 slugging percentage and a .714 OBP, also scoring a run in Tulsa's non-conference game against Missouri State on Wednesday.

This is the first career conference award for Horner, and the fifth American Conference Player of the Week award for Tulsa this season.

The Golden Hurricane (34-17, 12-6 American) opens the American Conference Championship against UConn at 12:30 p.m. CT Thursday in Orlando, Fla.
