There's a new officer on the job at the Poteau Police Department.
The new officer's name is Sumo, and he is 23 months old. Police tell KFSM, the CBS affiliate in Fort Smith, the new K9 officer is specially trained to detect narcotics.
For the past six months Sumo has been training in Kansas before officially joining the department this week.
The department says its been 20 years since they've had a K9 officer on the force.
Police said Sumo cost $14,000 with the money coming from the Reid family through Community State Bank in Poteau.
