Muskogee County Sheriff's deputies say a homeowner fired a shotgun at a man caught breaking into a vehicle early Monday as he ran away.

Investigators says the shooting occurred at a home south of Muskogee just off Highway 69. They said the owner of the vehicle fired a shotgun at the man hitting him in the back.

Deputies said the fleeing man then jumped into his vehicle and headed toward Muskogee. Along the way, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers and deputies spotted him and got him to a Muskogee hospital.

The sheriff's office has not released any names, but said the man's wounds were not serious.
