Cattle From Muskogee County Animal Cruelty Case Up For Auction In Tulsa

Cattle seized from a Muskogee County man charged with cruelty to animals are being auctioned Monday at the Tulsa Stockyards.

Over 100 cattle that belonged to Don McWilliams will be on the auction block this afternoon. Despite their condition, there are quite a few people who are interested in buying them.

While the cows and calves look much better than they did a few weeks ago, they still have a ways to go.

Tulsa Stockyards owner Joe Don said some will be sold just by themselves, others in groups.

The animals were taken from Dan McWilliams' ranch on February 8, 2015. Investigators found 36 cows and horses dead at the ranch. Hundreds more survived but were malnourished, according to authorities.

Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson said it was one of the worst cases of animal cruelty he's ever seen. McWilliams was arrested and faces 23 counts of animal cruelty.

The surviving animals have been getting care at a ranch in Muskogee County. 

About 100 of McWilliams' horses will be auctioned Thursday, March 5.
