EMSA Responds To Dozens Of Wrecks On Slick Streets Around Tulsa

Between midnight to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, EMSA says it has responded to many winter weather-related calls. Winter weather conditions Saturday morning mean Tulsa Police continue on Operation Slick Streets.

They are only responding to injury wrecks. Northeastern Oklahoma is under a winter travel advisory through midnight.

Wrecks Friday were steady all day long, with one every 15-30 minutes, according to EMSA spokesperson Kelli Bruer.

In total, EMSA has responded to 37 wrecks that have occurred on both slick city streets as well as highways and expressways.

Paramedics also have responded to one cold exposure call and transported the person to a hospital early in the morning.

EMSA is encouraging people to stay indoors and avoid driving, if at all possible. If you must get out, dress appropriately in warm layers, including a hat, gloves and sturdy, rubber-soled boots or shoes. Take a charged cell phone with you anytime you are going outside. Pack your car with a blanket and water.

Also, please take caution when heating your home. Do not use gas, kerosene or propane heaters indoors. Carbon dioxide can quickly build up and be fatal. Keep space heaters away from all flammable materials such as furniture and bedding.
