Construction workers began closing lanes on South Sheridan Monday ahead of a reconstruction project between 51st and 61st streets.

Funding for the project comes from Tulsa's Third Penney Sales Tax. It's scheduled to be completed in December.

The city says this Fix Our Streets project is divided into two phases.

The first phase stretches from 56th Street south to 61st Street. Officials say the old street surface will be removed and a new roadbed built. Work is expected to take five months. Traffic on Sheridan will be limited to one lane in each direction.

Officials say once phase one is done, the contractor will be move to phase two which is 51st Street south to 56th Street and do the same thing.

Tulsa says they contracted with Becco Contractors for $4,233,054 for this project.
