Police Identify Tulsa Man Who Admitted To Shooting Friend During Quarrel

James Edgar Simons of Tulsa is being held by police on an assault with a deadly weapon complaint after another man was found shot in the abdomen.

Tulsa Police have released new information in a shooting that took place in the 8700 block of East 19th Street in Tulsa Saturday night.

James Edgar Simons of Tulsa is being held by police on an assault with a deadly weapon complaint after another man was found shot in the abdomen.

Simons admitted to police - and the News On 6 cameras - that he shot his friend.

Tony Russell, News On 6: "Did you shoot your friend?"
James Simons: "Sure did. Didn't mean to. He got on top of me."

According to an arrest report, Simons told police he and his friends had gotten into a fight. When the other man jumped on him and punched him, Simons shot the man, the report states.

Officers say the victim was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Simons is being held on a $25,000 bond.
