Forecasters say snowflakes could fall on parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas on Christmas Eve.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa says it expects areas of light rain and snow to develop Tuesday night, mainly across northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas.

News On 6 meteorologist Mike Grogan says temperatures should be cold enough for snow in that region which means there's a potential for some light accumulations.

If the snow happens, the accumulation should range from a trace in northeast Oklahoma and an inch at higher elevations in northwest Arkansas before the snowfall tapers off Wednesday afternoon.

Grogan says Christmas Eve will be chilly, but the weather on Christmas Day will be breezy and mild with highs in the 50s.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
