Police say they used a bait car to catch a man trying to steal wheels and tires.

Detectives set up a sting operation because someone had been stealing wheels and tires off vehicles at car rental lots and other locations for several weeks. Thursday night, police parked a bait pickup truck at the Enterprise Rent -A-Car lot on 51st Street near Highway 169.

At about 4 a.m. they saw a man taking the wheels off the pickup. When officers approached he ran away. They used a K-9 officer to track him down. The dog accidentally bit another officer who went to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police identify the suspect as Kejuan Barnette, 21.

They believe Barnette has stolen more than $75,000 worth of wheels and tires from vehicles across east Tulsa.

Barnette was booked into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of grand larceny, resisting arrest and interfere with a police officer.  Jail records show is bond is $7,000 with a court appearance set for December 29, 2014.
