Tulsa police officers on Saturday took 30 kids from Celia Clinton Elementary School Christmas shopping.

But these kids weren't thinking of themselves -- instead they were gift shopping for their families.

This is the 13th year for the Shop with a Cop program, which is funded by the Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police and the Rotary Club of Tulsa.

It's a community outreach initiative to show children that police are real people and someone they can go to for help.

"Police work is about community involvement to, so you know get with them at an early age and show them that we care,” TPD Officer John Woods said. “We don't just write tickets and stuff like that, we're actually here to help out and make a difference in the community."

And it pays off to think of others this holiday season. At the end of the event officers surprised each child and took them gift shopping for themselves.
