The Tulsa men's soccer team concluded the season with a 2-0 loss to Saint Louis in the NCAA first round on Thursday night at Hermann Stadium in St. Louis, Mo. TU tallied an 11-6-3 mark on the season, while SLU moved to 14-4-2 overall.
“I thought after the first 10 minutes we settled in and controlled the first half,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “We possessed the ball well and created a number of chances in the first half, and in the second half we had descent control and didn't give up many chances, but we didn't create many chances until late in the game. I am proud of what we've done and accomplished this season.”
“I am proud of our seniors and what they've done. They have showed courage, led the group and got the team together. We couldn't have asked for a better group of senior leadership of how to do things the right way. We will miss them immensely, but hopefully the younger guys have learned a lot of lessons from the example they've set.”
Kingsley Bryce put SLU on the board at the 62:20 mark from three yards out off a pass from Robert Kristo, and in the 88th minute the roles were reversed as Kristo scored and Bryce picked up the assist.
Tony Rocha finished with three shots, while Ray Saari and Akeil Barrett both had two attempts, and Quinton Duncan, Cameron Drackett and Aymar Sigue all had one shot. Jake McGuire logged all 90 minutes between the posts and had four saves.
The teams finished with 10 shots apiece, while Saint Louis had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.
Both teams had six shots in the second half, but SLU had a 4-1 lead in shots on goal in the final 45 minutes.
The first half ticked off the clock scoreless, but both teams had four shots, including two on goal, while the Billikens had four corner kicks. Rocha and Saari both had one shot on goal in the first frame.
