It's been a busy overnight with severe storms and heavy rainfall moving across the state. Due to the severe weather threat underway at this hour (2:30am), I will be brief with the morning discussion.
A powerful upper level system is moving across the southern and central plains this morning with a surface cold front sliding across the state. This boundary will produce a squall line with some severe weather this morning across eastern OK, northeast TX and points eastward for the early morning hours. This window for severe weather is rather short-lived but all modes of severe weather will be possible even though the biggest threat will be damaging winds and some hail. Watches and warnings are underway. Please check the top of the weather page for the up-to-date information.
The squall line should be clearing Eastern Ok and moving into the Arkansas area around 7am to 8am. If you are reading this post pre-dawn, please remain aware of the approaching storms this morning.
We'll get a break in the prcip from roughly 8am until around 1pm or 2pm when some wrap around moisture will move back into southern Kansas and northern OK producing some rainfall this afternoon into early evening but this activity will not be severe.
Temps this morning may hoover or oscillate into the 60s, but will drop into the 50s for the afternoon along with gusty north winds around 25 mph. Once the upper level trough clears the state later this afternoon and evening, the clouds will clear and temps will drop. Tuesday morning lows will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s with afternoon highs in the upper 60s near 70. North winds will prevail along with sunny conditions and a dry air-mass. The pleasant fall weather will remain for the entire week with cool mornings and mild afternoons. Another front should clear the area Thursday but with no rain and very little change in sensible weather conditions.Another boundary may clear the state Sunday night into Monday morning with some shower and thunderstorm activity. This will be represented by a low end probability on the 7 day planner, but the pop could increase during subsequent forecast cycles.
I'll post additional details about the up-coming week later, but it's back to the radar at this hour!
Thanks for reading the early Monday morning weather discussion.
