A man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol plowed through a fence at Southwood Landscape and Nursery early Sunday morning. The wreck also damaged a fire plug and a city sign in the 8900 block of South Lewis at about 2:45 a.m.

The man apparently lost control of his white car on the sharp turn that leads to the nursery. He hopped the curb, ran over a street sign and knocked over a fire hydrant. The car continued through a chain link fence and some potted trees, ending up in the middle of the nursery parking lot.

Police arrested 24-year-old Howard Robert Hash II for misdemeanor driving under the influence (first offense). The arresting officer said he failed a sobriety test and showed several physical signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and trouble maintaining his balance.

The car was pretty badly damaged, and Tulsa firefighters were called to help clean up the damage to the city equipment. Although EMSA responded to the scene, they did not transport Hash to the hospital.
