The University of Tulsa is hoping to enlist its fans to create a new tradition during Golden Hurricane football games this season.

Florida has the “Gator Chomp” . . . Mississippi State has its “Cowbells” . . . Arkansas fans chant “Woo, Pig Sooie” . . . Florida State has its “War Chant” . . . Tennessee stadium is filled with “Orange and White Pom Pons” . . . and this season TU fans are asked to “Wave the Flag.”

Tulsa will distribute 10,000 Hurricane flags at the season opener, Thursday, August 28, against the Tulane Green Wave. Fans will be encouraged to bring the flags to each home football game to show their Golden Hurricane spirit by waving Hurricane flags.

Hurricane flags can also be purchased at the TU Bookstore or at the Stadium Souvenir Shops on game day.

“We are asking our fans to embrace ‘Wave the Flag' so it becomes a long and cherished tradition at our school,” said TU Vice President & Director of Athletics Dr. Derrick Gragg. “The idea actually was initiated when our Student Association provided flags to the student section for last year's Homecoming game. The sight of Hurricane flags waving on the east side of the stadium made a lasting impression, and sparked the vision of what an awesome spectacle it would be of a full stadium with waving Hurricane flags.”
