The Tulsa football team returned to Harwell practice field for a 150-minute practice on Saturday morning to close out fall camp.
“This practice officially closes out fall camp for us, so what that means is no more two-a-days,” said Tulsa Head Coach Bill Blankenship. “We're going on a retreat today, taking our guys up to Dry Gulch USA. They'll enjoy getting away and playing for a little bit. We'll spend time with some kids, so we can do a little mentoring while we're there.”
Tulsa will take Sunday off and return for an afternoon workout on Monday with 100-percent focus on Tulane.
This is the fourth year that the Tulsa team has taken a retreat to Dry Gulch. “We discovered a great location in Dry Gulch,” said Blankenship. “This is our fourth year for the retreat up to Dry Gulch. They have go-carts, ropes course, fair-like rides, a lake to do some fishing. We'll have guys do all kinds of kick-back stuff for a full afternoon and evening. We'll get up Sunday morning, go to church together, come back and give them the day off.”
Blankenship commented about how the retreat helps with the team building aspect of the football program.
“I think it's huge. We believe that a team is built not just on the field, you build it in the locker room, you build it in the apartments and dorms, and also these types of events. You get to know each other better, and you'll just play harder with each other,” added Blankenship.
Tulsa opens the season against the Tulane Green Wave on Thursday night, August 28th.
