The president of the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors says there has been no audit of chamber operations in more than a decade and that payroll taxes haven't been paid in several years.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said June 17 that it's investigating allegations of embezzlement at the chamber.
The Tahlequah Daily Press reports that board president Steve Turner said in an email to chamber members this week that there has been no audit since 2003, federal payroll taxes were last paid in 2007 with reports last filed in 2006, and that state payroll taxes were last paid four years ago.
Turner declined further comment on Saturday.
Chamber director David Moore resigned without explanation on June 12. Turner also declined comment on Moore's resignation.
